Veteran Murray Elmer Smith



He Was born on February 2nd 1925 in Penobsquis, New Brunswick which is 12.8 kilometers outside of Sussex New Brunswick. Growing up he had one brother and one sister. In 1942 he signed up with the Army, were he was placed in 3rd Canadian Infantry Division as a Private. He fought in many battles and countries. He countries he fought in were England, France, Italy, and Holland. The battles he fought in were D-Day, Battle of Normandy, and Battle of the Scheldt. He participated in Operation Husky and Goldflake. After the war he married Glendine and they 3 boys and 1 girl. He also has 10 grand children. He volunteered at the legion in Sussex, for many years, were he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (devotion to the Aims and objects of the royal Canadian Legion).He worked at the Memorial Hospital/ Sussex Health Center for 35 years as a Orderly and a Ambulance Driver.His hobbies were collecting fiddle heads and Fishing and Hunting at Lake Mechamic New Brunswick.He passed away at the age of 75 on November 22nd 1999.
