Veteran Edmund Arsenault

Edmund Arsenault was born on June 27th, 1921 in St. Nicholas, Prince Edward Island, where he was raised. He enlisted with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders when he was only nineteen years of age. Edmund trained with the Highlanders in England for two years before joining the Royal Canadian Regiment in Italy from 1943-1945 for the Italian Campaign. He and his fellow soldiers started in Southern Italy and marched north fighting battles. Edmund’s last location in World War II was Holland, in 1945, at which time the war was finally over. He returned home to St. Nicholas, P.E.I. After his return from the war he married Yvonne Arsenault in 1946. They had fourteen children. Thirty six years later, in 1982, Edmund became sick with lung cancer. He later died in 1983, and is now buried in the Miscouche Cemetery. His great dedication and tremendous effort as a sniper for the Royal Canadian Regiment in World War II earned him the Italian Star, the France and Germany Star, a Defense Medal, and a Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and clasp. He served as a great honor to his country and will always be remembered by his friends and family.
